Meet the Boyfriends: Ben

You guys, I think it's time. I want you to meet my boyfriend. Things are getting pretty serious and I can really see this going somewhere. I know we've only been dating for 6 (almost 7) years (!), but sometimes you just know, you know?

No but really. A few people asked via social media to hear more about our boyfriends, so I thought it would be fun to do a little Q&A with Ben. We've been together for quite some time (no we're not getting married anytime soon, so cool your jets, Mom.) He's a video production artist by day, musician by night, and he thinks he's quite the comedian. Here's what he has to say for himself.

And tune in next week to meet Skyla's boyfriend, Tony!

Tell us about yourself!

I write songs and sing in a band called Annabel. We've been gigging for the past 8-9 years or so, playing pretty much all over the the US and Europe. Anyone who knows me can tell you my passion is music. I love to travel and get anxious when I'm home for too long.

I also follow baseball and basketball pretty avidly (much to Lindsay's dismay).  But don't worry, I read plenty of Nietzsche and Bukowski poems that make me question the meaning of everything, so those balance each other out, right?

For money I do video production work, which involves editing and shooting video. I just like to create things in general!

Tell us about your relationship!

Our relationship is built on great communication (well, mostly Lindsay's great communication and my great cooperation).  We've built a lot over the last 6+ years and things only get stronger as we go along.  We have a lot of separate interests and hobbies, but we have very similar core values and personalities.  I think we definitely balance each other out with a lot of things. Plus we're both hilarious, so...

Describe your most perfect food!

The most perfect food is pineapple fried rice, which also happens to be what I made for dinner tonight. (Yes ladies, he cooks too.)

How do you feel about the blog?

I think the blog is great. I really don't like the word "blog" though. It reminds me of a mixture of a blob and a log and I don't think that's a very good combination... But anyways, I've been telling Lindsay for years to write a blog. She has such a way with words and I'm so glad she has an outlet for all her passions. She and Skyla make a great team and I'm so impressed that they're able to write every day of the week!

What's your favorite travel memory?

Last year I went to Europe on tour with my band.  The tour itself was amazing, and after the tour ended Lindsay met me over Prague and we traveled for another few weeks through Italy, Norway, and UK among other places.  The most memorable part though was when we got to Iceland and met 3 strangers from different parts of the world, rented a car and traveled around the entire country in 3 days. We saw so many beautiful things and made me really appreciate how beautiful life really is.

Who wears the pants in the relationship?

When I read this question I said to Lindsay, "I think we both wear the pants. We both have pretty strong personalities." Then she pointed to her dog (which she persuaded me to buy for her as a Christmas present) and pointed to the house we lived in (which I also bought after her preference) and then I walked out of the room.

But I would say mostly me.

  1. This was so nice to read. :) The boyfriend seems like a great dude, and I definitely believe that in a relationship, core values that coexist are more important than interests--you've definitely got to have different interests so you can learn from one another!

  2. I love this! Haha, I don't think following sports automatically makes you terrible. I really draw the line at the (f-word) NFL, but I really like baseball (go Dodgers!) and I used to follow basketball. It's great to see this inside peek at your relationship, Lindsay and Ben. My favorite was "Who wears the pants" haha! I might do a Q&A with my boyfriend, too. It's a fun idea!
